Transition is actually a process or period in which something undergoes change and passes from one state, form, or activity to another. How we deal with the uncertainty of change is an indication of how successful we will be as business mangers and entrepreneurs. Learning how to find opportunities in periods of transition and change is a life skill which is important to master.
3 Tips to Dance Your Way through Transition
• Are you open minded and flexible? – a wonderful attribute for entrepreneurs or business owners . No matter how much we strategize and plan – we need to be able to “zig and zag” when the unexpected happens. Don’t be attached to the results. Remember to expect the unexpected. Create an atmosphere that encourages associates to express new ideas.
• Prepare several “what if” scenarios so that “ zigging and zagging” is not just a process of throwing darts and hope they hit the target. We can solicit the help of a business mentor or CPA to help us with this type of planning.
• Get used to the idea that we are going to do several things that are outside of our comfort zone. You may be surprised…..after a while you will enjoy the challenge as you let go of old habits and attitudes. The sooner we practice doing this the better. Seasoned business people know from experience their work week may be filled with transitions which can be perceived as pressure or stress!
Recently, we at ISL Financial Advisors re-vitalized our business model. We had developed the skill of working in transition and so we met the challenge with optimism and positive energy. We are experts at helping clients who are facing the challenges of transition. We have specifically helped clients focus on what they “needed” to do rather what they "wanted" to do.
We had the foresight to develop a relationship with a mentor who we used as an objective sounding board. This made all the difference when we were jettisoned out of our comfort zone.
Stress and pressure was transformed into action!
